Details
This very special ride takes cyclists to many interesting trails, dirt roads, and pavement that connects the dirt sections on the Cape. Fat bikes go to some sandier places and a few beautiful beaches for extra fun. This is a sandy place meaning the trails dry very quickly if they get wet and there is sandiness on the trails in general. The chances we would need to cancel this ride due to the weather are very small. We expect to ride rain or shine and will only cancel if the weather appears dangerous to riders or trails.
If you’re a bikepacker and want to test your gear, strap it to your bike and come along! If you just want to enjoy a lovely autumn day on the bike without hoards of people on the Cape, this ride is for you, too.

100 Mile Fat Bike Option offered for NEER members
If you are a fat bike rider interested in a 100-mile fat bike ride option, we have this running separately on Sunday, October 20. The 100-mile fat ride is open to NEER members and registration will be no charge. Get your Friends Together to Ride Together!
We’re offering a separate rollout time for all friend groups so you can start together and stay together. Get your friends together and when you register, tell us their names. Your start time will not be more than 30 minutes different from the start time for the category you register for unless you request a different time.
If you don’t have friends who want to do the ride, that’s fine, we will get riders of similar paces to ride together or you’re welcome to ride solo. We prefer to start solo riders nice and early so you’re seeing others throughout the day and not the last rider out there.
Start Time Requests if different from the category start time
We’re happy to accommodate anyone’s start time requests unless it looks like it’ll get you back too late so please tell us your requests in your registration information. If you’re riding with a friend group and you request a specific time, we’ll assume everyone in your group is on board with this request.
Pace
If you choose to ride with a group of friends you or someone puts together, ride the pace your group prefers! We offer a start time for your group so that you can start separately and stay together.
If you’re riding solo, you’re welcome to ride the pace you want as long as you have time to complete the route before we stop serving food. If you’re wondering about your pace and timing, email us.
If you select to ride with a group of people we assemble, then you’ve told us your pace and hopefully those who we match you with are around the same pace. There’s always a risk of the group being a little faster or slower than how you want to ride so come with the route loaded and be prepared. Our rides typically attract people in this category who want to ride with others so will alter their pace to appease others in the group so as to have a group experience.
Start, Distance & Estimated Ride Time
Start times that you see when you register are all approximate. We will roll out groups of friends, groups we assemble, and solo riders separately. You'll get an email with exact rollout times by 7pm Thursday evening prior to the ride.
Everyone will receive an email by Thursday evening by 7pm that includes all of the details of the ride, the routes for all distances, and roll-out times. Your roll-out time will be within 30 minutes of the time you’ve registered for and it’ll probably be a bit closer than that.
We expect all riders to be done riding by 6pm, that’s when the sun sets. We don’t want anyone out riding after dark.
Parking
There is a large parking lot that allows for all-day parking at no charge where we’ll be starting and ending. Long routes will visit the lot during the day so there’s an opportunity to go to your car/grab stuff, etc.
Route & Route Notes
The routes will be emailed to all who register no later than 7pm Thursday evening prior to the weekend of the ride. Please don’t email prior to this asking for the route.
A general note about the routes: you’re never going all that far from where you park so cutting the course is not an overly challenging thing to do if necessary to get back early for whatever reason.
This is a sandy area. Both gravel and mountain bikes are welcome for the gravel-version of the ride. Gravel cyclists not familiar with sand will have the opportunity to get familiar with it! 40mm or larger tires are recommended.
For the fat bike routes: fat bikes are required with a minimum of 3.8” tires in order to properly enjoy the beaches included.
Terrain Description
The routes may evolve prior to it being finalized. Weather may change the route at the last moment, too. Last minute road work also sometimes requires re-routing. The point is, these percentages are estimates and may change.
Percentages are by shown by distance, not time.
Percentages are very similar regardless of route distance. The fat bike class is the exception; see those differences below.

Food & Water During the Ride
We’ll be hosting a mid-ride food stop for the 100-mile gravel riders with basic calories. There will be ample water for bottle refills. This is the same location where you’ve parked, so if you want to resupply with your favorite food, you will have the chance to grab whatever you want.
There are quality food stops on the route with stores that are open at this time of year that provide free water and tasty food if you’d like to get extra things to eat while you’re riding.
Our pre-ride email will include information on places to stop to refuel during the ride.
After the Ride
Bring a change of clothes and a lawn chair so you can enjoy a bunch of social time post-ride!
We’ll provide a hot, tasty after-ride meal for all riders. We’ll be serving food until the sun sets and hanging out until everyone is done enjoying themselves. Be sure you have completed your ride prior to sunset which is 6pm.
What happens if it rains?
This runs rain or shine. Dangerous weather cancels and we’ll offer a partial credit for a future ride based on expenses already incurred by the time we need to make the decision.

Camping Option
We recommend staying at the Atlantic Oaks Campground if you’d like to camp nearby the start. We’ll be hanging out there Saturday evening. Select a red “A” site if you’d like to be near to us and other Brutiful riders. You will need to make your reservation with this campground via calling them. If you try making the reservation online, it makes it look like the sites are full or that a 3-day reservation is required. It’s $42/night this time of year. Their phone number is (508) 255-1437.

Details
We are hosting a really fun day of gravel and mixed terrain riding in New Hampshire, out of the neat town of Dover, NH. This is a great opportunity to spend the day on a dirt adventure, enjoy each other’s company, and simply enjoy a nice day out on the bike in an area you probably don’t ride much/at all!
There are options for riders so you get what you want and have a really fun day on the bike! Here are the basics:
Start with a drink or food at a local cafe to start the day.
Ride in an area without much traffic and where you're probably not riding otherwise
Dirt-to-pavement: it’s at least 60% dirt, you’ll see plenty of dirt throughout the day.
This is an area that may have wet ground if there are recent rains, but we won't be doing damage since sensitive trails are not on the route. The ride is unlikely to be rescheduled due to rain.
Connect with your gravel riding friends! Make new friends for the season!!
Everyone who RSVPs for this ride will receive an email by 7pm Friday, September 27 with route information and exact start time information along with parking instructions and more.
Pace
Expect the pace of the Super Domestique-led group to be “endurance”/moderate. It would equate to 16-17mph if it were a paved road ride, except there’s a lot of dirt so the average pace will be lower than this by a bit.
We’re likely to split into a faster and not-as-fast groups depending on who registers and what everyone wants to do. If you want to ride faster or slower than the Super Domestique-led group, please state this in your RSVP!
Start, Distance & Estimated Ride Time
Ride starts at 9am in the center of Dover, NH.
Allow 6-7 hours for this 100km route, there are two towns the route passes through where it’s possible to stop for food, to refuel on water, etc.
Parking
Parking is in a large public lot that costs $3 for the whole day. It’s possible that it’s no charge on Sunday, but bring money expecting to pay.
Toilets
Local businesses are close by (we’ll tell you exactly where to find them) and they have facilities.

Route notes and special things to watch for or to expect are included in the email to riders. We never have you do anything we wouldn’t do ourselves!
We never seek out gratuitous climbs. However, since we’re in NH, there will be climbs and descents, for that matter. Climb at your own pace and hills aren’t as bad!
After the Ride
There are tasty local establishments near the parking lot where drinks and food may be enjoyed for those who’d like to socialize after the ride.
What happens if it’s rainy?
The roads and trails won’t be affected by rain except for possibly adding more puddles for riders to avoid. We aren’t riding sensitive trails or areas where it would be irresponsible for bikes to go when it’s wet.
We will host the ride if rain is predicted. Dangerous weather cancels the ride or postpones the start.

Front and rear lights. It’s getting dark earlier now and this is for safety just to have these on your bike from now on this time of year. Visibility is always a good thing for safety regardless.

Details
This is a fun ride where everyone has a chance to load your gravel-capable bike (gravel, mtn, fat) and go on an adventure ride! This route is fun, there’s a variety of terrain in a beautiful part of the state, come well prepared for a big day!
We recommend camping the night before this ride (and doing the Saturday Adventure ride if you can too!) But if you want to come out day-of for the ride, that’s fine as well. If you’re not camping, then if you want to park at the campground where everyone else is, it’s (probably) $10 for the day to leave your car and have access to bathrooms/showers/all of the campground amenities.
If you want to stay over Sunday night and head home Monday morning, that’s an option, we’re reserving 1-4 camp sites for 2 nights and maybe more sites for both nights, depending on the number of people and tents. It’s a max 8 people per site but we’ll want to spread out more than this.
The price of camping will be the total amount that it costs plus firewood divided by the number of people who stay at camp. We expect the price to be somewhere around $50-75 per person.
Pace
This ride is suitable for everyone, some fat bike riders who are fitter will be carrying a lot of stuff so a less-fast gravel bike with less stuff will keep up just fine. Everyone is welcome to go at a comfortable pace, but we’ll try to set this up so everyone has people to ride with.
Start Time/Schedule
7am - Wake up, make coffee (pourovers at campare on offer!) Make your own breakfast with your bikepacking stove. If you don’t have one, we have extras for you to practice with. Be sure to have ingredients for breakfast. We’ll bring a few extra things to share.
8:55am - Be ready to ride!
9:00am - Safety talk starts, then everyone rolls out

Allow ~8 hours for this ride, depending on your pace. Assuming 10mph is reasonable + stopped time.
Parking
Parking is available at the campground for $10 and you’ll get use of the facilities if you’re not sticking around to camp.

Anyone who wants to hang out, enjoy dinner and campfires, and/or camping is welcome to hang out at camp. It’ll be a long day so you might not feel like driving home (though it’s not a long drive back to the Boston area).

33mm knobby tires OR BIGGER. Wider tires are nicer!
Clipless pedals and shoes. These are important elements of bike control. If you are an experienced cyclist who has used platform pedals and sticky shoes extensively, this is acceptable. Note that mountain-style pedals/cleats are significantly better than road-style. We strongly discourage road pedals/cleats on a mixed terrain ride. You can possibly get away with road pedals/cleats on a gravel (dirt road) ride, but not a mixed terrain ride.
A bike that’s in safe working order that is properly lubed and tuned. Have a plan in case your bike or legs stop working. Note there are a lot of dead cell phone areas in the areas where we’ll be riding.
High enough tire pressure to prevent pinch flatting and burping your tires.
Be sure you have supplies necessary for all common mechanicals including extra derailleur hangers, a multi-tool, quick chain links, tubes, CO2 or hand pump, etc. You are responsible for you and your bike.

NEER Season Kick Off Ride! Adventure Gravel Ride
This is the NEER Season Kick-Off weekend and we have a lot of great riding in store for you! Ride out of our favorite farm, Red Apple Farm, on Saturday, if you’d like, camp with us Saturday evening (very close to the farm), and we’re offering yet another terrific mixed terrain Ride Option on Sunday! Sunday’s ride is intended to give people the chance to test bikepacking equipment and loading the bike (not required to participate).
Saturday’s Ride Description
Join us for incredibly beautiful cycling on the back roads of central Massachusetts! There are TWO distance options for you for this ride! Choose a 77-mile route or 55-mile route to enjoy.
There are numerous views of Mt Modnadnock during this ride for the 77-mile riders!
This ride is full of dirt roads, with nice paved roads as well. Most of the route is back roads, away from traffic and people. Keep reading to understand the logistics. This ride starts at Red Apple Farm in Phillipston, MA.
This is a group or solo ride, depending on how you want to ride it. You may get a group of your friends together, you may request to ride with others who are likely of your similar cycling pace and experience, or you’re welcome to ride it alone, though you’re hardly alone when there are so many people on the same route. We hope solo riders are interested in starting earlier so that you’re ahead of the others rather than behind
There is little to no cell coverage on many parts of the routes.

Due to insurance requirements, this ride is only open to NEER members. You may become a NEER member, so it’s not too late. NEER rides all fall and winter, if you’re worried about what’s going to become of your cycling life, we recommend joining NEER!

Get a Group of Friends Together to Ride!
Ride with your friends at whatever pace you and your friends like to ride. Let us know you’d like to do this when you register, we ask who is riding with who.
Ride with New-to-You People Option
Ride with people of your riding speed, but you don’t have to know anyone prior to the ride! This is an option for you if you’d like to ride with a group, but don’t have friends riding or simply want to meet new people who are of a similar strength. We do our best to group you together.
Ride Solo
You’re also welcome to ride solo. We prefer if you are a solo rider that you choose an earlier start time so that there are riders behind you, for the purposes of safety and everyone seeing people out there on the route.
We are glad to start you off earlier than the advertised starting times so that you’ll see others all day long, yet still get to ride solo.
Riders stop for a food break in central Massachusetts on an especially huge NEER adventure ride.
Food & Drinks
There are food/water stops on the route. There will not be any staffed food or water stops on the ride. Since we don’t have to hire anyone to work this ride, there is no fee to ride.

By not charging you for food, it’s your choice as to how much and where you eat post-ride. We recommend doing business at Red Apple farm. They generously welcome us with open arms, give us parking, bathrooms, water, and access to their store, and prepared food. They have a huge selection of goods in their store and the Brew Barn makes tasty food. They hosted us throughout the pandemic and have been EXTREMELY generous in sharing their farm and time with us.
The Brew Barn is open 9am-8pm. They serve breakfast sandwiches at 9am.

You MUST be a NEER member (a Cat 4 NEER membership is $50 for a full year of hosted rides of all varieties, and there are lots of additional benefits to being a member) - details on joining are here). This is a requirement of insurance, otherwise, we would be unable to host this or any bike ride.
No day-of registrations
Parking & Start Location
Red Apple Farm in Phillipston, Massachusetts. Exact details and location information are emailed to registered riders by 7pm the THURSDAY before the ride. There is a special parking place for our group. Don’t drive a car that sits low to the ground (like a sports car) as there may be rocks in the parking lot, it’s not a paved lot.
Camping Option & Sunday Loaded Ride Option
We have camp sites reserved at nearby campground Lamb City Campground so that everyone who wants to camp after the ride, enjoy camp fires together, enjoy being next to a calm lake, talk about the season ahead (yes, it’s just the start for many riders), this is a really fun time together. This also allows you to be close so that you are right there ready for Sunday’s loaded bike ride option!
When you RSVP, please mention that you would like to camp.
Price for camping: we’re taking the price of the camping reservation, adding in the cost of fire wood and dividing by the number of people who are sharing the space. We’re expecting this to be in the neighborhood of $50-75 per person.
Sunday Ride Option!

Route Information
Like all of our routes, it’s adventure-filled, but also very appropriate for gravel bikes. You’ll ride plenty of dirt roads, trails, and what’s pavement will be on the quiet roads. Thank you to Singlespeed Kenny for providing Saturday’s routes for us to enjoy!!
The routes have been vetted within the past 6 months. However, it’s still healthy to bring a spirit of adventure - if a road is closed for whatever reason, you’ll need to figure out how to re-route.
Be sure you’ve got the route and at least one back-up power source to charge your GPS unit and phone during the day. Do not plan on having cell service since there are quite a few portions of the ride with weak to no service.
Safety & Dealing with Mechanicals
Every rider is expected to follow the rules of the road at all times. This means obeying stop signs and staying to the right-hand portion of the road.
If we think you’re being unsafe, you will be asked to leave the ride. You will not be invited to return to any group rides as well. This applies for all aspects of cycling and general behavior.
We are NOT providing a roving mechanic. That means you should bring all of the tools and supplies necessary for possible mechanical situations. There are other riders out on the route and we hope people will assist each other in case of a problem.
Come out with a freshly tuned up bike, fresh sealant in your fresh tires, have electronic bikes charged fully, shifter lever batteries checked for freshness, lube those chains! Check your spare tubes to be sure they will hold air. If you’re in doubt about this, take new tubes. It’s not worth getting stuck out there.
Most mechanicals are easily avoidable by taking proper care of your equipment in advance of the ride.
There is no ride leader, even if you ride with a group; you’ll be following your GPS computer, therefore owning a GPS computer is a must with at least one back-up power source.
We will not shuttle riders anywhere, it’s your responsibility to have a plan in case your bike or legs stop working.
We’ll send a very detailed email by 7pm the Thursday before the ride, with the route, instructions, and details so you understand logistics and exactly what to do.
Preparation
What to bring, we recommend:
Everything necessary for common mechanicals. Items include:
2 x tubes
Hand pump
Co2 cartridges & Co2 inflator
Tire levers
Boot/dollar bill if your tire gets ripped
Patch kit
1 pair of quick links compatible for your chain
Chain pliers
Chain breaker
Multi-tool (if your chain breaker is on your multi-tool, even better)
If your bike uses a replaceable derailleur hanger, be sure to have an extra that is compatible with your bike
Rain jacket - this works well for chilly descents too
2 x 26 oz water bottles, more if it’s going to be hot
Food/nutrition in case you need a zap of energy before the food stop
Proper Bike for this Ride
40mm tires are best suited for the ride. Err on the side of bigger, especially if you’re newer to gravel riding. Feel free to use bigger tires. Your gravel bike is the most appropriate bike for the ride. Mountain bikes and flat-bar bikes are welcome. Narrower than 28mm tires are strongly discouraged. There is some loose gravel on the roads. Narrower tires are more likely to pinch flat and are less stable than 28mm or bigger. We welcome mountain bikes, fat bikes, and any bike that you feel comfortable completing the distance on in the time frame allotted for the ride.
Clipless pedals and shoes. These are important elements of bike control.
A bike that’s in safe working order. Make very certain your bike comes clean, lubed, safety checked with fresh brake pads, and tires in good shape. If it's wet on the road or raining, please put a rear fender on your bike to keep you from getting wet. If you’ll be riding with others and it’ll be wet, please be nice to your co-riders and use full-coverage fenders.
Weather
We will ride rain or shine. Dangerous weather (like an electrical storm) cancels the ride or postpones the start time.
Last Minute Information
We will email everyone who registers with the latest information if last minute details change.
Unregistered riders, riders who are not members of NEER, or riders who haven’t signed the liability waiver may not participate.

Details
This mixed-terrain ride takes cyclists to many roads, back roads, plenty of dirt paths and single-track trails for a total of 55 miles. It’s probably 50% paved. The dirt sections are all very nice (and slower so they occupy a good amount of time!)
Any gravel bike with ~40mm tires is suited for the terrain. The terrain is not that technical where it’s off-road, expect (as always on mixed terrain): dirt, some sticks, rocks.
Pace
We’ll split people into 2 groups based on bikes and speeds that are likely to result.
We have a designated Super Domestique leading the last group to depart which will be rolling at a steady endurance pace. If you can maintain a 15mph average pace on the road (on a road bike) for 3+ hours, you have the fitness you need for this ride. This ride’s pace will be much less than 15mph (probably more like 8-10mph average).

Note that mountain-style pedals/cleats are significantly better than road-style. We strongly discourage road pedals/cleats on a mixed terrain ride. You can possibly get away with road pedals/cleats on a gravel (dirt road) ride, but not a mixed terrain ride.
A bike that’s in safe working order that is properly lubed and tuned. We’ll ask you to call for a ride or take an Uber home if you have a mechanical situation that will hinder the forward progress of the group by more than a few minutes.
High enough tire pressure to prevent pinch flatting and burping your tires. We recommend about 80% of maximum rated tire pressure. Sometimes this is much too high, ask us if you’re not sure where to set your tire pressure. We like you to have more than enough air for these reasons:
We want to minimize flats on the ride; waiting for someone to change flats is not why we ride. We typically see zero flats on our ride. One of the primary reasons for this is due to higher than average tire pressure.
You can easily take it out, much harder to add it in.
Be sure you have supplies necessary for all common mechanicals including extra derailleur hangers, a multi-tool, quick chain links, tubes, CO2 or hand pump, etc. You are responsible for you and your bike.

Does it feel like gravel riders get all of the adventures? Think again! This is an adventure ride for your ROAD bike!! The route has some dirt on it (~25%), but it’s terrain appropriate for 25mm tires or bigger, gravel bikes are not necessary.
This is a fun road ride with adventure built in for your ROAD bike (gravel bikes are welcome, but absolutely not required). 25mm tires or bigger will work great on this terrain.
The ride starts at Elm Bank in Natick, MA and heads south west to Blackstone, a lovely area for a great ride!
We have a designated Super Domestique leading the last group to depart which will be rolling at a ~15-16 mph average endurance pace. Other pace groups will be 17-18mph and 18+ mph is possible if we have riders sign up for this pace.

The route is a mixed terrain route so any gravel bike with 40mm tires is suited for the terrain. We’ll split people into groups based on bikes and speeds that are likely to result.
Wet trails cancel the ride or turn it into a fun road ride on gravel bikes. We email all who have RSVP’d the night before if the ride changes, assuming we have enough head’s up prior to sleeping. If we get a surprise soaking, we’ll do a road alternative on whatever bike you brought!
We have a designated Super Domestique leading the last group to depart, if we split into groups.
Pace: endurance zone 2/3 for most cyclists - if you can average 15/16mph on a road bike on a paved road, you’ll be fit enough for this ride.

Details & Pace
This mixed terrain ride takes cyclists to many interesting trails with roads connecting them.
The route is a mixed terrain route so any bike with 38mm tires or bigger is suited for the terrain. Faster riders are always welcome to go ahead, we discuss how we manage this before the ride starts.
There are some easy-to-ride boardwalks on the route, it’s pretty well ridden so not hard to navigate when the sun is setting.
We have a designated Super Domestique leading the main group. New-to-mixed terrain riders should try our weekend rides first prior to coming out to this ride.
It doesn’t mean much to talk about the average pace of a mixed terrain ride since it sounds a lot slower than it really is. We keep moving at an endurance pace but it’s not fast given the waning sunlight.

Lights, front and rear. Bring both front and rear lights with battery power to stay lit for a 2.5 hour ride. Correct, the ride is 1.5 hours, but if there’s a mechanical or if you accidentally set it too bright, then you want to still have enough light for the duration of the ride.
Concerning Rear Lights: A super bright and/or flashing rear light will blind the person riding behind you and it actually hurts that person’s eyes and can make it hard for that person to see. Please look into your rear light. If it burns your eyes, get a “group ride friendly” light such as the Super Flash ($25) - it has a steady mode and isn’t too bright.

Riding Rules
All riders are required to read and are expected to abide by These Rules. RSVP’ing to this ride indicates you have read and accept all of the rules. These make the ride safer and more fun for all.
Waiver
Ride Headquarters requires a signed waiver before your first ride. Please fill it out online prior to your first ride.
If this is your second or more ride with us, our insurance requires that you become a member of NEER.
Proper bike & Equipment
35mm knobby tires minimum. Wider tires are nicer! Tire choice depends on your riding skill set. We expect to see mostly gravel bikes, some mountain bikes, and possibly fat bikes at this ride.
Clipless pedals and shoes. These are important elements of bike control. If you are an experienced cyclist who has used platform pedals and sticky shoes extensively, this is acceptable. Note that mountain-style pedals/cleats are significantly better than road-style. We strongly discourage road pedals/cleats on a mixed terrain ride. You can possibly get away with road pedals/cleats on a gravel (dirt road) ride, but not a mixed terrain ride.
A bike that’s in safe working order that is properly lubed and tuned. We’ll ask you to call for a ride or take an Uber home if you have a mechanical situation that will hinder the forward progress of the group by more than a few minutes.
High enough tire pressure to prevent pinch flatting and burping your tires. We recommend about 80% of maximum rated tire pressure. Sometimes this is much too high, ask us if you’re not sure where to set your tire pressure. We like you to have more than enough air for these reasons:
We want to minimize flats on the ride; waiting for someone to change flats is not why we ride. We typically see zero flats on our ride. One of the primary reasons for this is due to higher than average tire pressure.
You can easily take it out, much harder to add it in.
Be sure you have supplies necessary for all common mechanicals including extra derailleur hangers, a multi-tool, quick chain links, tubes, CO2 or hand pump, etc. You are responsible for you and your bike.
