Details

This is a fun ride up to Harvard and includes views of the Fruitlands. Please be ready to ride by 7:55am. We have a safety talk then split people by pace and then roll out!

We have a designated Super Domestique leading the last group to depart which will be rolling at a ~16 mph steady pace. Slower up hills, faster on flats and downhills. If you have questions about the pace, please email us in advance.

We’ll split the group so faster riders can ride faster together.

Distance

The ride is 55 miles in length. Yes, this just got longer by 5 miles - there was something a bit wacky in the routing.

Parking

Address for your GPS to get to the parking lot:

10 Maguire Rd, Lexington, MA 02421

Look for the lot south of 10 Maguire, so once you pull in, turn left. The lot is next to Maguire Rd, as far south as you can get in that business complex lot. The red van should be obvious once you get into the lot and look south. Across the street from Revolution Hall. Do NOT park in the Revolution Hall parking lot.

Route

The route is here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/51119254

All riders should load the ride on a GPS computer so everyone knows where we’re going and it makes splitting into groups easier.

Estimated Ride Time

~4-5 hours depending on your pace and the time the group takes at the food/bathroom stops.

Route Notes

There is one place to stop for food/water on the route in Harvard (Harvard General Store) at mile 25. There are more places where a stop could happen.

There is a cut through Assabet for making it a little more interesting on the way out, it’ll be broken pavement, possibly some dirt. Nothing technical.

After the Ride

Anyone who wants to enjoy food/drink/social time at Revolution Hall after the ride is encouraged to do so!

We will email all participants with any critical late-breaking news.

This is a fun ride to NH from Concord, we haven’t ridden this in awhile so are hoping the dirt roads are still dirt and not all pavement now! The dirt in the past was all quite rideable for 25mm tires (or bigger), so your road bike is sufficient.

We have a designated Super Domestique leading at a ~16 mph average endurance pace. This route is hillier than usual so the pace will be dialed back for the last group to roll out appropriately. If you have questions about the pace, please email us in advance. If you’d like to ride faster or slower, it’s likely you’ll have company. Please mention your desired pace when you RSVP.

Details

This is a beautiful day on the bike on the North Shore! The route is designed by NEER member, Tom, who was raised here and has ridden extensively in the area. Lots of riding next to bodies of water.

We have a designated Super Domestique leading one group to depart which will be rolling at a steady 15-16 mph average conversational, endurance pace. To achieve this average, the pace on flats is faster, hills are slower and steady. This is not a pace that will feel slow.

Per usual on our rides, there’s likely to be a faster group who hang together, you’re welcome to opt into that! All roll out together for ~3-4 miles, then we have a thoughtful split.

If you believe your pace will be less than the Super Domestique-led group, please mention this in your RSVP. Come prepared with the route, you’re more than welcome to come on the ride and there are often more people who want to ride behind the Super Domestique-led group. You’re also welcome to raise your hand to lead a group, in which case, we’re likely to find others who want to ride with you! This applies for either faster or less-fast riders.

If you have questions about the pace, please email us in advance.

We’ll do our best to keep less fast riders in the draft of the group, being able to ride in the draft is really helpful for keeping everyone together if you’d like to ride with the group!

Distance

The ride is 60 miles in length.

Parking

Address for your GPS to get to parking: 260 Merrimac St, Newburyport, MA 01950

Look for the big, red van parked in the far side of the lot closest to water and the neighborhood next door. This lot is free all day and offers enough spots for all who are driving to the ride.

Route

The route will be shared with all who RSVP.

Let’s enjoy a dry spring day and do a great ride together! Please be ready to ride by 8:55am. We have a safety talk then split people by pace and then roll out!

With rain preceeding this ride all week, and it’s not super warm out, you’re likely to be antsy to get some endurance miles in and you might not be feeling super strong. That’s fine! This is intended to get everyone endurance, plenty of quality time in the saddle, and time to enjoy the day together, too. It will be sunny (or so they say)!

We have a designated Super Domestique leading the last group to depart which will be rolling at a ~14 mph endurance pace. This route is hillier than usual so the pace will be dialed back for the last group to roll out apprpropriately. If you have questions about the pace, please email us in advance.

Route

The routes will be shared with all who RSVP.

All riders should load the ride on a GPS computer so everyone knows where we’re going and it makes splitting into groups easier.

Estimated Ride Time

~3.5-5 hours depending on your pace and the time the group takes at the food/bathroom stops.

Route Notes and Food Stops

Food/water: There is one food/refuel stop at mile 25 at a small market (basic store and sandwiches offered). It is worth being a little hungry at the end since there’s a nice food truck with a lot of offerings in addition to the tap room full of beer and non-alcoholic drinks as well.

Route notes: The 1/2 way destination is Diamond Hill Reservoir in Rhode Island. It’s a beautiful place to ride to and through. There are many lovely areas and bodies of water to be seen enroute as well. The roads are not heavily traveled and are most back roads with a few crossings of major roads. As always, there will be rough roads and potholes so keep an eye open.

After the Ride

Enjoy food and drink at the Tap Room and time together before you take off! There is plenty of room in the Tap Room for us to have our own large table(s). At 2pm, there’s a “Puppy Bowl” happening at the tap room so if you like dogs, this is the place to be.

The Tap Room opens at 12pm. The fastest riders are likely to arrive right around 12pm.

Proper bike & Equipment

  • Bring your road bike OR gravel bike with whatever size tires you enjoy riding that will allow you to keep pace with the group you would like to ride with.

  • If the roads are wet/messy, please mount a rear full-coverage fender. If you don’t have one, expect to ride at the back!

  • Clipless pedals and shoes.  These are important elements of bike control. Since we are riding near to each other on the road, platform pedals don’t offer necessary bike control for this kind of riding.

  • A bike that’s in safe working order that is properly lubed and tuned. We’ll ask you to call for a ride or take an Uber home if you have a mechanical situation that will hinder the forward progress of the group by more than a few minutes.

  • Be sure you have supplies necessary for all common mechanicals including extra derailleur hangers, a multi-tool, quick chain links, tubes, CO2 or hand pump, etc. You are responsible for you and your bike.

Details

This is a beautiful day on the bike on the North Shore! The route is designed by NEER member, Tom, who was raised here and has ridden extensively in the area. We expect to see nice foliage, too!

We have a designated Super Domestique leading one group to depart which will be rolling at a steady ~16-18 mph average conversational, endurance pace perfect for this time of year.

If you have questions about the pace, please email us in advance.

We’ll split the group so faster riders can ride faster together and not-so-fast can be together too. If you want to take it a little easier, that’s fine, come prepared with the route and the understanding that you might be riding solo at some point. We’ll do our best to keep less fast riders in the draft of the group.

Details

This is a beautiful day on the bike in some lovely areas starting in Plymouth, MA and visits towns of Carver, Rochester, Mattapoisett, Marion, Wareham throughout the day!

Special thanks to NEER member, Peter B, who has prepared this route and shared details of food stops and parking for us to enjoy!

We have a designated Super Domestique leading one group to depart which will be rolling at a ~16-18 mph average conversational, endurance pace. If you have questions about the pace, please email us in advance.

We’ll split the group so faster riders can ride faster together and not-so-fast can be together too. If you want to take it a little easier, that’s fine, come prepared with the route and the understanding that you might be riding solo at some point.
